Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles consists of four mutated turtles from the American cartoon series of the same name. The turtles are named after four Renaissance artists and are named - Raphael after Raffaello Sanzio, Donatello after Donatello, Leonardo after Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo after Micheangelo Buonarroti.
These names have been given to their master by the name of splinters, which he is also mutated although Splinter was a rat.
Splinter is also the one who trains the turtles to ninjas.
