Teddy fleece outside or teddy lining inside?
A teddy jacket has a soft, piled surface that resembles a teddy bear's fur. Teddy fleece and sherpa describe this type of texture. A teddy-lined jacket has the soft material inside and a different outer fabric. This category includes both constructions, so check the photos as well as the fabric description.
The texture alone does not tell you how warm or weatherproof a jacket is. Outer fabric, lining and any padding make the difference. To compare other fleece constructions, explore our men's fleece jackets.
Compare styles and fastenings
Choose a full zip if you want to open the jacket completely. A half-zip pullover goes over your head, while a teddy-lined shirt jacket gives a different look and may use buttons.
How teddy jacket constructions differ| Style | How it works | What to check |
| Full-zip teddy fleece | Opens completely and is easy to take off. | Length, lining and cuffs or adjustment at the hem. |
| Half-zip pullover | Pulls over your head and opens at the neck. | Chest and shoulder room, plus any side opening. |
| Teddy-lined jacket | Teddy inside with another fabric outside. | Outer fabric, padding and which areas have teddy lining. |
How should a teddy jacket fit?
Compare measurements with a jacket that fits you well, allowing for the layers you plan to wear underneath. A fluffy texture does not automatically mean a roomy fit. A boxy cut is wider and straighter in shape, but check its length too.
- Lay your jacket flat and compare chest width, length and sleeves using the same measuring points as the product's guide, where garment measurements are provided.
- Do not confuse flat garment chest width with your body's chest circumference. Follow the guide's explanation of its measurements.
- Try the jacket over your hoodie or jumper. Fasten it and reach both arms forward: it should not pull across your back or feel tight under your arms.
Hoods, high collars and pockets
A hood covers your head; a high collar offers an alternative without extra fabric behind your neck. A hood does not prove that a jacket protects against rain. If you plan to wear another jacket over it, check that the hood, collar and sleeves fit underneath. Compare pocket size and position; zipped pockets let you close them around keys and a phone.
Is a teddy jacket a winter jacket?
A teddy jacket is not automatically a winter jacket. Teddy fleece can work as an outer layer in mild spring or autumn weather, or as a midlayer in colder conditions. For winter outerwear, compare lining and padding, including our men's winter jackets.
Teddy fleece does not guarantee windproof or waterproof protection. Those properties must be stated for the individual style. For wet weather, compare our men's rain jackets.
Colour, styling and care
Let the teddy texture do the work. Black creates a cohesive dark outfit; beige or white makes the texture stand out. Straight trousers can balance a wide boxy jacket. With a longer lined style, check where the hem falls over your hips, especially if you wear a long hoodie.
Always follow your jacket's care label. The outer fabric and lining may need different treatment, so one general fleece washing rule will not suit every lined jacket. Compare more constructions in our men's jackets category.
