First choose how the trousers should work and fit. A leg pocket, stretch or elastic waistband does not tell the whole story. Room across the hips and thighs, rise and leg shape matter too.
Choose denim for a distinct jeans look. Compare shape and any stretch in men's jeans; slim and loose styles give different volume.
Check fabric, waist and hems in men's sweatpants. Jogger often describes a sporty shape rather than a specific material.
For prominent leg pockets, see cargo pants. For military-inspired cuts, patterns and details, start with military-style trousers.
Compare thigh width and leg opening together. Slim follows the body more closely; straight keeps a more even line; loose fit adds volume. Tapered means the leg narrows towards the hem and can still be roomy at the thigh. Fit names are not identical across different styles.
Follow the product's size guide and compare the same type of measurements. A flat waistband measurement is not body circumference; an elastic waist may be measured relaxed or stretched. Inside leg runs from crotch seam to hem, while total length also includes the rise. Compare with your own trousers that fit as you want.
Choose a length that works with your intended shoes. An open hem can fall over the shoe; a cuff keeps the finish closer to the ankle. A drawcord adjusts the opening but does not shorten the sewn leg. Check pocket fastenings and care instructions before choosing.
