Are these trousers real leather or faux leather?

The trousers in this category are made from faux leather or leather-look synthetic fabrics, rather than real leather. You may also see the terms imitation leather or synthetic leather in product details. Read the composition for each style: a leather look describes the appearance, not that the fabric is animal hide.

Stretch and surface sheen are separate features. Look for elastane and a description of stretch if you want fabric that gives. A glossy or matte finish does not tell you how flexible the trousers are.

Compare leggings, slim, wide and flared trousers

Choose the leg shape according to where you want a close fit and where you want more room. Leggings follow the legs, wide trousers add volume, and flared styles become wider towards the hem.

How do you choose the right size and leg length?

Compare the style's size guide with your measurements and a pair of trousers that already fits well. Check whether the guide shows body measurements, garment measurements or flat widths; these cannot be compared directly. Do not size down just because the fabric stretches, or expect faux leather to mould to your body like real leather.

Measure from the crotch seam to the hem if the guide gives an inside leg length. For a side length, measure down the outside from the waistband to the hem as the guide instructs. If your own trousers have a 76 cm inside leg and the new style measures 72 cm, turn the hems up by 4 cm for a rough comparison. The rise and crotch position can affect the result.

When trying them on, you should be able to sit and bend your knees without the waistband digging in or the seams pulling. If a measurement you need is missing, contact customer service before choosing a size.

Style the leather look for day or evening

Let the trouser finish set the tone and choose a top for the contrast you want. A simple women's T-shirt or top keeps the outfit pared back, while a print adds a rock-inspired edge. A shirt or blouse creates a more dressed-up contrast to the leather look.

A shorter or tucked-in top shows the waist of wide-leg trousers. With close-fitting leggings, a longer, loose top adds volume above. Choose the proportions you like – your style needs no apology.

Shoes to suit the leg shape

Choose shoes and trouser length together, especially with wide or flared legs. Try the hem over trainers, boots or heels with the sole height you plan to wear. A length that works with heels may be too long with flat shoes.

With slim trousers and leggings, check how the hem meets your boot shaft so the fabric does not bunch. Wide or flared hems can fall over the shaft if the opening is large enough.

How do you care for faux leather trousers?

Follow the care label on your particular pair. Fabrics and surface finishes can vary, so one instruction about machine washing, hand washing or dry cleaning will not cover the whole category.
