Start with the neckline and opening. They affect how the sweater works over a shirt, under a jacket and against your neck. Knitted does not necessarily mean wool: check the chosen item's fibre content.
A crew neck can show the shirt collar underneath. A roll neck frames the neck higher and takes up more space under a jacket collar.
A pullover goes over your head; a cardigan opens at the front. Choose an opening style if you want to remove the layer without pulling it over your hair.
Ribbing, patterns and reinforced areas change the look and bulk. Check panel positions where a jacket or backpack rests against the garment.
Choose a less bulky construction beneath a slim jacket. Strong ribbing and heavier textures need more room, including in the jacket sleeves. The products use different fibres and blends; appearance alone cannot establish warmth or care requirements.
Compare chest width, sleeves and body length with a sweater that fits as you want. Use the guide's measurement points and lay the knit relaxed without stretching it. Check the hem ribbing too: a snug hem can make the same body length sit differently from a straight finish.
Choose Nordic pattern sweaters for distinctive patterns, half-zip sweaters for an opening neckline, or full-zip sweaters and cardigans for a fully opening front. Plain colours let the texture show; a pattern can carry the outfit. Follow each item's care instructions.
