Choose a plus size shirt by width and proportions together. The same size label can represent different measurements, so start with a shirt that already works for you.
Compare width at the right height. Straight and shaped cuts can share a chest measurement but leave different room further down.
Check shoulder width, upper-arm room and sleeve length. Going up a size can change all of these, not just room around your stomach.
Assess the hem standing and sitting. Extra width is not the same as extra length; check both before choosing.
Compare garment measurements taken using the same method, rather than letters alone. Lay your own shirt flat and buttoned without stretching it. If it is 66 cm wide and another design is 70 cm, that adds 4 cm of flat width, approximately 8 cm around the body. The example explains the difference, not which size you need.
Check the fit when sitting down and reaching forward. Pulling between buttons shows where the fabric is under tension. Compare the width at that point; a larger chest measurement will not always help if the shirt narrows sharply towards the stomach.
Plus size refers to larger sizes, while oversized describes a deliberately roomy cut. A larger shirt can still fit close to the body. If you will wear it open over a T-shirt, allow room for the layer through the body and sleeves. Check the sizes and measurements listed for each design.
Once the size works, choose for how you will use the shirt. Short-sleeved shirts leave your forearms uncovered; long-sleeved shirts allow sleeve adjustments. Choose pattern, colour and fabric after that. For a wider comparison, explore men's shirts.
