The Finnish flag, known as "siniristilippu" (blue cross flag), consists of a blue Scandinavian cross on a white background. The colors represent Finland's natural landscape; the white symbolizes the snowy winter and the blue stands for the country's thousands of lakes and the sky.

Historically, the current design of the flag was officially adopted on 29 May 1918, shortly after Finland declared independence from Russia in December 1917. The inspiration for the Scandinavian cross comes from the flags of the other Nordic countries, showing a sense of community and history in the Nordics . Over the years, the flag has become a powerful symbol of Finnish identity, pride and independence.
